In October 2022 alone, two separate incidents at public events each led to more than a hundred deaths: a stampede at a soccer match in Indonesia, and a crowd surge during Halloween festivities in Seoul, South Korea. This article summarizes some of the existing industry and consensus standards for event safety.

REFLECTIONS ON WILDLAND FIREFIGHTING
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, EQUIPMENT, HAZARDS, AND PROCEDURES For two summers in the 1960s, John C. Ratliff fought wildland fires in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S., and in 1972 he became a smokejumper. Although wildland firefighting today is quite different, his experiences provide insight into the many industrial hygiene concerns associated with this work.
