OSHA Announces Changes to Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory Program
In November, OSHA announced the addition of a new test standard to the Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory Program’s list of appropriate test standards. The agency also updated the scopes of recognition of several NRTLs. OSHA’s NRTL Program recognizes organizations that provide product-safety testing and certification services to manufacturers. The program is intended to ensure that certain products meet the requirements of OSHA’s electrical standards—both construction and general industry. Effective Nov. 5, the agency added UL 61010-2-020, Standard for Safety Requirements for Electrical Equipment for Laboratory Use; Part 2-020: Particular Requirements for Laboratory Equipment for Laboratory Centrifuges, to the NRTL Program's list of appropriate test standards. This standard replaces UL 61010A-2-020—Electrical Equipment for Laboratory Use; Part 2: Particular Requirements for Laboratory Equipment for Laboratory Centrifuges, which was previously withdrawn.
This change affects the scopes of recognition for several of the laboratories in the program: the Canadian Standards Association; Intertek Testing Services, NA; TUV SUD America, Inc.; and Underwriters Laboratory, Inc. OSHA has updated the scopes of recognition for each of these laboratories to delete the test standard UL 61010A-2-020, Part 2, and replace it with UL 61010-2-020, Part 2-020.
More information about these modifications is available in the Federal Register.
