AIHA Selects Thomas P. Fuller as Representative to IOHA
In February, AIHA named Thomas P. Fuller, ScD, CIH, CSP, MSPH, MBA, as its representative to the International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA). Fuller will be an integral part of planning IOHA’s 2018 international conference, which will be held Sept. 24–26, 2018, at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C.
Fuller has been a member of AIHA since 1996 and has more than 35 years of experience in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, infection control, environmental management, and public health. He also has experience in healthcare, nuclear power plants, labor organizations, biopharmaceutical labs, manufacturing, and universities.
IOHA comprises 34 occupational hygiene organizations from around the world. Through its members, IOHA aims to improve, promote, and develop occupational hygiene worldwide. Its flagship international conference takes place every two to three years. Next year marks the first time the IOHA conference will be held in the United States. Previous host nations were the U.K. in 2015, Malaysia in 2012, and Italy in 2010.
AIHA is organizing IOHA 2018 and has scheduled professional development courses for the weekend before the conference, Sept. 22–23, 2018. The call for technical committee members will open in June 2017 at AIHce EXP in Seattle, Wash., and the call for proposals for educational programming will open in January 2018. Registration is anticipated to open in March 2018.
Fuller’s extensive volunteer experience includes serving as past chair of the AIHA Nonionizing Radiation Committee and as a member of the AIHA Healthcare Working Group and Publications Committee. He is also a founding member of the AIHA Pandemic Planning Team, vice chair of the International Affairs Committee, and AIHA’s ambassador to France. In addition, Fuller is a member of Workplace Health Without Borders and was recently admitted to the International Commission on Occupational Health, an international nongovernmental professional society that seeks to foster the scientific progress, knowledge, and development of occupational health and safety. He previously served as president of the board of directors of the
Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene
(JOEH).
“Tom Fuller is a longtime active member of AIHA who possesses extensive experience and education as an international representative on IH/OH issues and outreach efforts,” said AIHA President Steven Lacey, PhD, CIH, CSP. “Tom’s passion for global standards of OH practice and care will make him an outstanding ambassador for this prestigious international conference.”
