thesynergist | COMMUNITY

AIHA and ACGIH are searching for an editor-in-chief (EIC) for the
Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene
(JOEH), a peer-reviewed publication devoted to enhancing the knowledge and practice of occupational and environmental hygiene and safety operated by the two societies. The EIC position will become vacant later this year due to the retirement of current Editor-in-Chief Mark Nicas, PhD, CIH. The EIC has responsibility for ensuring timely publication of high-quality manuscripts of interest to the occupational and environmental hygiene community in JOEH. Towards this goal, the EIC must: remain abreast of trends in occupational and environmental hygiene and update the JOEH scope and content accordingly; and communicate respectively with authors, reviewers, and readers.
JOEH
receives over 300 manuscript submissions per year via an electronic system (ScholarOne), and on a day-to-day basis the EIC reviews submitted manuscripts, assigns peer-reviewers and makes determinations of acceptance, revision and rejection. The EIC is a non-voting member on the
JOEH
Board of Directors and submits biannual summary reports regarding the status of submitted manuscripts. Annually, at AIHce, the EIC meets with the
JOEH
Board of Directors and the
JOEH
Editorial Review Board members. The EIC must have: • national recognition for his or her professional accomplishments in the field of occupational and environmental hygiene, • a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals that demonstrates in-depth knowledge of a field of scientific inquiry and research methods relevant to the scope of the JOEH, • experience writing, reviewing and editing technical documents, such as peer-reviewed manuscripts or scientific reports, and • familiarity with the objectives and operations of AIHA® and ACGIH® gained through membership and active participation in one or both organizations. This is a one-year renewable contact position starting on or around November 1, 2017. This position will remain open until filled. For fullest consideration, applications should be received on or before June 15, 2017. Application instructions and materials are available on AIHA's
website
. AIHA and ACGIH are Equal Employment Opportunity Affirmative Action employers and are committed to promoting diversity in the workplace.
Nicas has served as JOEH editor-in-chief since 2010.
