NIOSH Updates List of Hazardous Drugs in Healthcare Settings
In early September, NIOSH published its updated list of antineoplastic and other hazardous drugs in healthcare settings for 2014. The document builds on a NIOSH alert from 2004 that warned healthcare employers and workers of the risks of working with hazardous drugs and also described measures they could take to protect their health.
The 2004 list of hazardous drugs was previously updated in 2010 and 2012. This most recent update adds 27 new drugs to the list. It also includes a review of the 2004 list and the consequent removal of 12 drugs that do not meet NIOSH’s criteria for hazardous drugs.
