

The AIHA® Volunteer Groups Named Awards
Fellows SIG Mid-Year Career Award
The Fellows SIG awards this honor to an industrial hygienist with 10 to 25 years of industrial hygiene work experience who exhibits outstanding leadership and/or technical capabilities, has worked as a volunteer for AIHA committees, project task forces and/or SIGs, and has exhibited a commitment to contribute to the industrial hygiene profession throughout their career. This year’s recipient is Chandra Deeds Gioiello, CIH.
Rochelle Crew Memorial Award
Presented by the Construction Committee, the Rochelle Crew Memorial Award honors the best construction-related paper, education session, or PDC presentation at the previous year’s AIHA Connect. It commemorates Rochelle Crew’s dedication to construction safety. This year’s recipient is Spencer Pizzani, CIH for Five Common Difficulties in Real Time Detection System Implementation.
Health and Safety Virtual Exhibit of the Year Award
This award, presented by the Museum and Cultural Heritage Working Group, recognizes a Virtual Exhibit and its sponsoring organization for excellence in communicating risk control challenges related to worker and/or public health and safety. This year’s recipient is Stephen Sherry, PhD for the NLM Virtual Exhibit, This Lead is Killing Us: A History of Citizens Fighting Lead Poisoning in Their Communities, which highlights past and ongoing efforts to prevent lead exposure in workplaces, from take-home exposure, dumping, and lead pipes.
Donna Doganiero Award
Presented by the Safety Committee , the Donna Doganiero Award recognizes exceptional contributions to safety education. It honors Donna Doganiero, CIH, FAIHA, for her outstanding achievements in the field of industrial hygiene and safety. This year’s recipients are Charles Jenkins, CIH and Christopher Louis, PE, CSP, CHMM for Severe Injury, Illness, and Fatality Prevention Model.
Cultural Heritage Health and Safety Advocate Award
This award, presented by the Museum and Cultural Heritage Working Group, honors individuals who have significantly impacted occupational health and safety within the cultural heritage industry. This year’s recipient is Monona Rossol for significant dedication to enhancing health and safety practices within the cultural heritage industry, positively impacting cultural heritage and art professions.
Joselito Ignacio OEHS Emergency Preparedness and Response Award
This award, presented by The Incident Preparedness and Response Working Group, celebrates outstanding contri-butions to occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) emergency preparedness and response efforts. This year’s recipient is John Wagle for Preparing for the Critical First Minutes of a Chemical Emergency.
The Dr. Oliver Johnson Professional Presentation Award
Presented by the Real-Time Detection Systems Committee, this award honors exemplary presen-tations in the field of real-time detection systems. This year’s recipient is Spencer Pizzani, CIH for Five Common Difficulties in Real Time Detection System Implementation.
Dr. Jack Driscoll Best Real-Time Detection Student Poster Award
Sponsored by the Real-Time Detection Systems Committee, this award recognizes the best student poster focusing on real-time detection at AIHA Connect. This year’s recipients are Nathan Chen, Seunghyeon Yang, and Jopnghwa Oh for Hand-arm Vibration (HAV) in US Groundskeepers.
Lila Albin Award
Since 1997, the Indoor Environmental Quality Committee has recognized a peer reviewed article in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health. This year’s recipients are Darpan Das, Kelsey R. Babik, Emma Moynihan, and Gurumurthy Ramachandran for Experimental studies of particle removal and probability of COVID-19 infection in passenger railcars, published in Volume 20, Number 1, 2 January 2023.

John M. White Award
Established by the Respiratory Protection Committee, this award encourages research excellence in respiratory protection. This year’s recipients are Margaret Sietsema, PhD, CIH, Hamed Hamza, PhD, and Lisa M. Brosseau, ScD, CIH for the study on Simulated workplace protection factor study of a quarter-facepiece elastomeric respirator.
2023 AIHA Bestseller
This award is presented to the editor(s) of a recent publication that sold the most copies during the year. The 2023 Bestseller Award is presented to Deanna K. Meinke, PhD, CCC-A; Elliott H. Berger, MS, FAIHA; Dennis P. Driscoll, PE, FAIHA; Richard L. Neitzel, PhD, CIH, FAIHA; and Kathryn Bright, PhD for The Noise Manual, 6th edition.
