The first few years of one’s career in OEHS can be an overwhelming experience. Belonging to a professional association like AIHA can make a huge difference in an early-career professional’s life. AIHA offers an incredible network of professionals, training opportunities, and leadership roles that can catapult one’s career. As society blazes through a new era of technological advances, it’s important for AIHA to stay current and maintain awareness of how resources can be best generated and received. If I’m elected to the Board, I would recommend we first hear from student local sections and a variety of volunteer groups, including the Students and Early Career Professionals, Academic Advisory, and Technology Initiatives groups, to get their perspective and then brainstorm preferred methods of information sharing. Next, I recommend we review how we currently transmit resources and look for areas where updates are needed (Catalyst, for example). I would also get the perspectives of the Women in IH, PR(IH)DE, and Minority groups to ensure that we align with our DEI efforts. Providing a variety of information pathways can reach a wider audience and demonstrates that we consider, and make space for, a variety of learning styles. This is an exciting time for AIHA to meet our early-career professionals at the proverbial door with multi-pathway resource options and technologically current platforms and means.
