Controls for COVID-19 in Non- Healthcare Workplaces
A CDC report published Feb. 19 presents data from a survey conducted in June 2020 to characterize the use of controls for COVID-19 in non-healthcare workplaces during the early months of the pandemic. Survey respondents were recruited randomly to represent the adult U.S. population, and data were weighted to match current U.S. demographics. The survey asked respondents to report their usage of controls such as personal protective equipment, cloth face masks, and physical barriers to reduce disease transmission. The information below presents survey-weighted data on workplaces where the use of controls was voluntary and on individuals who did not use PPE at work before the pandemic.
From “Required and Voluntary Occupational Use of Hazard Controls for COVID-19 Prevention in Non-Health Care Workplaces—United States, June 2020”:
“Some workers who were not required to use hazard controls were provided with them . . . and unadjusted voluntary use among workers provided with hazard controls . . . was twice that among those for whom hazard controls were not provided.”
