ACGIH Board Ratifies 2020 TLVs and BEIs
ACGIH announced in late January that its Board of Directors had ratified the 2020 Threshold Limit Values (TLVs) for Chemical Substances and Physical Agents and Biological Exposure Indices, or BEIs. This year, the board adopted TLVs for chemical substances such as acrylamide, methyl isobutyl carbinol, and resin acids. One BEI for the insecticide parathion was also adopted. The board also approved recommendations for additions to the Notice of Intended Changes list. The NIC list includes substances and agents for which a limit or BEI is proposed for the first time, for which changes are proposed, for which retention as an NIC is proposed, or for which withdrawal of the adopted TLV or BEI is proposed. Substances and agents that appear on the NIC list are considered “trial values,” and now include antimony trioxide, toluene, ionizing radiation, and whole-body vibration. The full list of 2020 TLVs and BEIs is available on ACGIH's website.
