CEC Accepting  Membership
Applications
AIHA is now accepting applications for positions on the Continuing Education Committee. The CEC comprises 12 members who are asked to commit to participate in the committee for four years. The CEC provides one of the levels of technical peer review of AIHA’s professional development courses, or PDCs, at AIHce EXP. CEC members are also asked to audit new educational offerings, which provides an opportunity for them to earn CM hours at no cost. Applications are due by March 27. Prospective volunteers are asked to submit a current resume or CV and fill out an application listing their experience, knowledge, and primary areas of interest. The application is available
online
(AIHA member login required). For more information,

Potomac Local Section Co-Hosts Seminar on Health, Safety Hazards in Museums
BY JANICE RUGGLES
On Nov. 7, 2018, the AIHA Potomac Local Section co-hosted a professional development seminar focused on the control of health and safety hazards in museums, historic sites, conservation treatment, and collection care. The event was held at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in collaboration with the Washington Conservation Guild; the Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Safety, Health, and Environmental Management; the National Collections Program; and the Lunder Conservation Center. Attendees included professionals from a variety of backgrounds—including conservators, exhibit specialists, industrial hygienists, safety professionals, engineers, and architects—who share a common goal of controlling safety and health hazards while preserving cultural heritage.  Continue reading about the technical information presented during this seminar on AIHA's

Synergist
Team Introduces Two New Types of Free Webinars
For many years,
The Synergist
has hosted webinars by sponsoring companies on topics of importance to industrial hygiene and occupational health and safety professionals. These educational webinars are presented in a traditional format and are typically 45 minutes long followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. Now The Synergist is introducing two new webinar types: Town Halls and Product Demos. Similar to educational
Synergist
Webinars, Town Hall Webinars are typically 60-minute presentations. Unlike educational webinars, Town Hall presentations are created from questions submitted by IH/OEHS professionals. This year,
The Synergist
and sponsor Bulwark FR will collaborate on a Town Hall series focused on FR/AR and chemical-resistant clothing. A few months before each Town Hall, a call for questions will be posted on
Catalyst
, AIHA’s online community. AIHA members will submit their questions about FR/AR and chemical-resistant clothing by replying to the
Catalyst
post or emailing the
Synergist
team
. Bulwark’s presenter will build a presentation around as many questions as possible for the time allotted. The first Town Hall Webinar was held on Feb. 27, but individuals can register to view the recording
online
. The second Town Hall is scheduled for May 8, and registration is set to open late next month.  The second new
Synergist
webinar format is the Product Demo, a short presentation of practical tips for using a specific product, similar to the demonstrations that take place at conference exhibits. These online presentations will be 20 minutes long followed by a 10-minute Q&A. The first Product Demo, sponsored by ILC Dover, was held last month. ILC Dover provided an overview of its Sentinel Clear PAPR, a powered air-purifying respirator that offers a virtually clear hood engineered with advanced film technology for superior visibility, comfort, and mission-critical protection from pharmaceutical ingredients. A recording of the Product Demo is available
online
. Registration is open for the next educational
Synergist
Webinar, which will discuss NFPA 70E-2018 arc flash requirements and will begin at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 13. Register for upcoming
Synergist
Webinars via

Synergist
Webinars, including important information about educational transcripts and certification maintenance, is available on AIHA's
