CSB Announces Executive Director to Lead Investigations, Recommendations Staff
In February, the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board announced that Stephen J. Klejst has been appointed as the new executive director for the agency. Klejst will lead CSB’s investigations and recommendations staff. He most recently worked at the National Transportation Safety Board as deputy managing director and director of NTSB’s railroad, pipeline, and hazardous materials division. During his time at NTSB, Klejst led agency investigations into major pipeline accidents such as the explosion of a major natural gas line in San Bruno, Calif., and the rupture of a hazardous liquid transmission line in Marshall, Mich. Both accidents occurred in 2010. “[Klejst’s] investigative experience, together with his leadership experience in both the government and private sector, will be a tremendous asset to leading our investigations and recommendations division,” said CSB Chairperson Vanessa Allen Sutherland.
