IH Professional Pathway Program Wins Gold

The IH Professional Pathway program, a comprehensive member outreach and public awareness campaign developed and launched by AIHA, was recently named a Gold Award winner of the 2016 MarCom Awards. The MarCom Awards is an international creative competition sponsored and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), an organization comprising several thousand creative professionals worldwide.
“The objectives of the IH Professional Pathway program are to build member engagement, career development, public awareness about the admirable profession of industrial hygiene, and appealing outreach tools for STEM students so they can better relate to this possible career path,” Susan Marchese, AIHA’s director of marketing and communications, explained. Marchese was instrumental in devising the multifaceted program.
Ben H. Rome, AIHA’s marketing manager, helped develop the “avatars” that represent the four career stages of the profession. He fashioned the avatars after comic-book heroes because, as Rome observed, “Industrial and occupational hygiene professionals are in the field, the lab, the training facility, classroom, and boardroom teaching, advocating, and mitigating workplace illness in every workplace. They are everyday heroes who don’t wear capes, but are protecting workers everywhere.”
AIHA President Steven Lacey, PhD, CIH, CSP, first announced the award to attendees at AIHA’s Fall Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The announcement video and a complimentary download of AIHA’s award-winning IH Professional Pathway outreach materials are available online.
The MarCom Awards recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communication professionals. More than 6,000 corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies, and freelancers enter this prestigious competition. Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.
Winners of the MarCom Awards range in size from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies.
