​OSHA Updates Final Rule on Eye and Face Protection
In late March, OSHA published a final rule to update existing eye and face protection requirements for workers in general industry, shipyards, longshoring, marine terminals, and construction. The new rule incorporates by reference the ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2010 standard on Occupational and Educational Eye and Face Protection Devices and removes references to the 1986 version of the same standard. The 2003 and 1989 (R-1998) versions of the ANSI standard have been retained. The rule also updates the current construction standard to make it more consistent with general and maritime industry standards by deleting the 1968 version of the ANSI standard and following the new updated standards. According to OSHA, the rule does not impose any new compliance or economic obligations on employers. The final rule became effective on April 25, 2016. Read the rule in the
