NIOSH Launches Center for Direct Reading and Sensor Technologies

In August, NIOSH Director John Howard, MD, announced the launch of the NIOSH Center for Direct Reading and Sensor Technologies (NCDRST), a virtual center established to coordinate agency research and develop recommendations in the area of exposure assessment devices. The new center will also develop training protocols and guidance documents relevant to direct-reading methods and sensors, and establish partnerships to collaborate in its activities. The NCDRST is hosted by the NIOSH Division of Applied Research and Technology and the agency’s Exposure Assessment Cross-Sector Program.

Howard has invited participation in the center, asking for partners to help identify gaps in the agency’s knowledge and to develop research strategies for reliable development, validation, use, and interpretation of direct-reading and sensor technologies. Those interested in partnering in NCDRST activities should e-mail Gayle DeBord, PhD, at gdebord@cdc.gov or Mark Hoover, PhD, CHP, CIH, at mhoover1@cdc.gov.
