New AIHA President Inducted at AIHce for 2016–2017 Term

On May 26, Steven E. Lacey, PhD, CIH, CSP, was inducted as the new president of AIHA’s Board of Directors at the association’s annual business meeting during AIHce 2016 in Inner Harbor Baltimore, Md. His term runs through AIHce 2017, which will be held in Seattle, Wash., next June.
Lacey has been an active member of AIHA for more than a decade and served as a director and then treasurer on the Board prior to moving into the presidential role. He has also served on multiple AIHA committees, including as chair of the Engineering Committee, and as founding chair of the Student and Early Career Professionals Committee. Lacey is an integral part of AIHA’s IH Professional Pathway program, which was created to align association resources and development opportunities with the various career stages of the profession.
“IH Professional Pathways will bring great value to our members by helping align our conferences, courses, and publications with the needs of industrial hygienists, EHS technicians, and allied professionals,” Lacey said when the program launched at AIHA Fall Conference 2015. “The process of creating these IH Professional Pathways has helped AIHA to better understand the many career stages in the IH profession so we can better support each individual at every stage of their career.” More information is available on the AIHA website.
“It is an honor to be representing AIHA in the presidential capacity,” Lacey said. “I look forward to building on AIHA’s 75 years of supporting the professionals that protect worker health.”
Lacey is an associate professor and department chair at the Indiana University Fairbanks School of Public Health. His research focuses on medical laser health and safety, including laser-generated air contaminants. He received his PhD in industrial hygiene from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
