New OSHA Publications Address Silica Standard Requirements, Tree Care Hazards
Two new OSHA publications provide work site safety solutions for workers who are exposed to respirable crystalline silica dust and for those who work in professional tree care. The revised fact sheet on OSHA’s respirable crystalline silica standard for general industry and maritime summarizes the major requirements of the standard. The fact sheet also provides a basic overview of respirable crystalline silica, how workers can be exposed, and when employers are required to comply with the standard. Additional information such as examples of dust control methods is also included. View the fact sheet as a PDF. The second document, “Solutions for Tree Care Hazards” includes an illustration that highlights potential tree care hazards such as falling tree limbs, overhead power lines, and high noise levels. The publication describes risk factors and prevention tips for traffic control, drop zones, chippers, aerial lifts, and power lines. OSHA also provides links to relevant web pages and fact sheets so that interested individuals can find further information on these topics. The fact sheet is available as a PDF. All OSHA publications are available via the agency’s website.
