NPPTL Page Collects Resources for Fire Service Personnel
The NIOSH National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL) recently launched a new webpage that collects resources for fire service personnel, including information about NIOSH’s Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program (FFFIPP). FFFIPP examines line-of-duty deaths of firefighters to help the fire service and others prevent similar deaths in the future. Staff from NPPTL assist with these investigations by evaluating the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) worn by firefighters during incidents resulting in a line-of-duty death, serious injury, or other adverse event. The new NPPTL page lists the standard test procedures performed during a typical evaluation and provides information on how to submit an SCBA or other personal protective equipment (PPE) to be evaluated by NIOSH. Completed evaluation reports and other resources are also available.
