OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS
New WEEL Value for Nitroguanidine Available Online
A new Workplace Environmental Exposure Level (WEEL) value with documentation for nitroguanidine is now available as a PDF on the Occupational Alliance for Risk Science (OARS)
website
. The OARS initiative is managed by the Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment (TERA) Center. TERA OARS reviews and revises current WEELs, and manages the development of new WEEL values.
According to OARS, nitroguanidine is typically used as a component of triple-base propellants. It is also used commercially as a gas generator in automotive airbags, in anticorrosive phosphate coatings, and in the production of some pharmaceuticals. The recommended WEEL for nitroguanidine is 7 mg/m3 as an 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA).
WEELs are airborne concentration limits that provide guidance for protecting most workers from adverse health effects related to occupational chemical exposures. The table of WEEL values is available on TERA’s
website
and on the AIHA
website
.
