NIOSH Publishes Database of Engineering Controls
NIOSH has released an
Engineering Controls Database
, a central repository of agency information on engineering control technology. Users can search the database using keywords pertaining to particular hazards, occupations, or industries. The search results include links to descriptions of controls, including pictures and schematics, and summaries of their effectiveness. Users can also search by North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes.
A
NIOSH Science Blog
post
notes that the information included in the database was originally published by agency researchers in a variety of formats, including journal articles. While much of the information on controls was previously available on the NIOSH website, the database is intended to make the information easier to find, according to the blog post.
The database does not include a comprehensive list of engineering control technologies or manufacturers and their products. The products and manufacturers listed in the database were chosen based on NIOSH research criteria.
