CareerAdvantage Seminars at AIHce to Focus on Career Building

By Kevin Roegner
The Career and Employment Services (CES) Committee will offer two seminars at AIHce 2016 as part of the CareerAdvantage Development Fair, which the committee hosts annually to help AIHA members grow and shape their careers. At AIHce in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the CareerAdvantage Development Fair will again provide career support services designed for professionals at any stage of their career. The two seminars will be offered on Monday, May 23, each approximately one hour in duration to accommodate attendees’ busy schedules. A seminar titled “Career Portfolio: Taking Control of Your Career” will focus on the career portfolio, a visual representation of a candidate’s skills, capabilities, knowledge, and qualities. Through a collection of tangible materials that represent work-related events in your life, career portfolios portray your potential to prospective employers. This seminar will help participants organize and prepare a portfolio of accomplishments to support their success in job hunting, employee evaluations, and promotions. A second seminar, “Get Noticed: Interview Do’s and Don’ts, Resume and Cover Letter Tips,” will feature tips for getting your resume into the hands of a hiring manager. During this interactive seminar, attendees will learn the appropriate information to include on a resume and discover editing and formatting solutions to highlight key points for hiring and human resources managers. The presentation will also offer recommendations about what participants should include (and not include) on their resumes. Seasoned hiring managers from within the industry will be on hand to discuss what they look for in interviews and what some candidates do during interviews that “turns them off.” The CES Committee will also offer resume critiques during the conference, and committee members will be available to assist attendees at the CareerAdvantage Development Fair. Be sure to visit our networking lounge and check out the scrolling job boards. Additional information on the CareerAdvantage Development Fair and the seminars can be found on the AIHce website. CES Committee members are a diverse group with representation from consulting, government, industry, and academia. The committee works closely with the Student and Early Career Professionals Committee to identify opportunities to attract individuals to careers in the environmental, health and safety profession. Those who are interested in becoming involved with the CES Committee should stop by during AIHce or contact me.
