NIOSH Releases Podcast on Noise-induced Hearing Loss
NIOSH’s Noise and Hearing Loss Prevention team released a new podcast featuring information on how workers can protect themselves from noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) on the job. Listeners can stream the podcast or download the MP3 from NIOSH’s website. The agency maintains a Web page on noise and hearing loss prevention that collects a number of resources on the topic. NIOSH’s page includes related facts and statistics, publications and tools, and information on associated national goals, policies, and standards. Featured resources include infographics on noise in construction; NIOSH’s Occupational Hearing Loss Surveillance Project; a searchable database for selecting hearing protectors available from U.S. hearing protector manufacturers; and the agency’s Buy Quiet prevention initiative, which aims to help prevent work-related NIHL by encouraging companies to buy or rent quieter machinery and tools to reduce employees’ noise exposures.
